Last year Prospects Newry Day Opportunities launched the ‘Louise Corbett-Gibbons Outstanding Achievement Award' in memory of their friend and colleague ‘Louise Corbett-Gibbons' who died at the young age of 24 after a courageous 9 month battle with cancer. Louise was a social work placement student and after graduating, took up post in Prospects Newry Day Opportunities.
Louise was an inspirational young lady who achieved many things in her short life. She worked diligently with the people supported in Newry Prospects, and in her memory, the staff of the Newry service feel the annual ‘outstanding achievement award' is a fitting tribute to Louise's diligence & perseverance, a celebration of her life and recognition of her achievements.
The GAIN Guidelines launch was the ideal time to present the Louise Corbett-Gibbons award. We are currently celebrating National Learning Disability week and the achievements of so many people within our society who have a Learning Disability.
Maurice Devine, Nursing Officer presented the award for outstanding achievement to……
…EVERYONE in Prospects Newry Day Opportunities Citizenship group…
…for their outstanding contribution in highlighting the right of adults with learning disabilities to be treated with dignity, respect and equality. Health equality is one of the main areas the Citizenship group have worked diligently on and the launch of today's GAIN Guidelines is another outcome of their incessant work and commitment in promoting positively the image of Learning Disability.
